Biography
2221b is a contemporary fine artist working in figurative drawing and painting. The work sits between portraiture and abstraction: a single figure, drawn quickly and confidently, then flooded with colour until the sketch beneath is only partly visible. Angels, astronauts and anonymous heads recur — bodies caught in the moment before they become someone in particular.
The studio practice begins on paper. Line comes first and is never corrected; what looks like a mistake is left in place, because the mistake is where the drawing shows its hand. Colour is added afterwards in flat, saturated fields that argue with the line rather than describe it.
Artistic philosophy
The gallery exists to give a single artist the room a museum would give them. Nothing is hung in a grid; each work is met alone, at architectural scale, with silence around it. Scale and quiet are treated as materials in their own right — the architecture is there only to amplify the work, never to compete with it.
Every piece is released as a limited-edition matte metal print, float mounted, in sizes up to 40 × 60 inches. Metal is chosen for the same reason the drawings keep their errors: it holds colour without gloss, and it does not pretend to be canvas.
